From September 24 to 27, 2024, I had the honor of hosting the ÖFEB Congress at the University of Teacher Education Vienna with my graphic recording. Under the motto "Discursive Diversity", more than 400 participants from the fields of education and research gathered to discuss educational approaches and pedagogical perspectives on the topic of diversity.
The opening ceremony was accompanied by phenomenal music from Musik PHabrik, whose choir had everyone singing and dancing along with a mash-up of chart hits and multilingual children's songs. Under the moderation of Christian Aspalter and Elke Poterpin, Yasmin Hafedh, Kenan Güngör and Salma Baghajati shared exciting insights into their experiences and perspectives on the reality of diversity in the educational context.
On the second day of the congress, Vice Rector Norbert Kraker officially opened the event after a musical contribution by the choir of practice students under the motto "Everyone Belongs" and a poetry slam by Katharina Wenty. In her keynote speech, the Rector of the PH Vienna, Barbara Herzog-Punzenberger, emphasized the importance of diversity in teaching. She called for "methodological nationalism" to be overcome and for the role of teachers as identity creators in a migration society to be strengthened.
One highlight was the keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Alisha Heinemann on Thursday, in which she presented the concept of Critical Diversity Literacy. She appealed to the participants to question privileges and not simply accept "apparent normality". The last day of the congress offered a profound examination of the topic of ableism with Rahel More's keynote. She focused on a change of perspective that questions the inflated expectations of human abilities and showed that the pressure to self-optimize affects us all.
Up to 13 parallel sessions took place throughout the three days of the congress, in which a wide range of perspectives and approaches to diversity in education were discussed. With my graphic recording, I visually captured the most important topics and insights. It was a great experience for me to be able to accompany the congress with my visual recordings. The variety of topics and the intensive discussions were inspiring and showed once again how important the exchange on diversity in education is.
Working with Lana Lauren was a pure pleasure from the initial contact to the follow-up work. Her friendly, reliable and professional manner was evident throughout the entire preparation phase. She responded flexibly and competently to our wishes and needs, patiently checked technical coordination and drew live with a high level of concentration, comprehension and implementation skills.
The results speak for themselves. Their pictures and summaries greatly enriched the ÖFEB Congress 2024.
