Focus on sustainability: thinking SDGs locally

Ban Ki-moon Center for Global Citizens

How can global sustainability be made tangible on the ground? This exciting question was the focus of the event "From national to regional SDG implementation report: shaping sustainability together at all levels". The discussion focused on how the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be firmly anchored in cities, municipalities and regions.

As a graphic recorder, I had the honor of visually capturing the discussions and impulses. The discussion about the "localization" of the SDGs - the translation of global goals into local measures - was particularly inspiring. Topics such as cooperation between the federal government, federal states and municipalities as well as the importance of the Voluntary Local Reviews were explored in depth.

Austria's second Voluntary National Implementation Report, which was presented at the United Nations in 2024, clearly shows that the strength of the SDGs lies in their anchoring on the ground, where committed people bring about concrete change.

With my visual protocol, I captured the diverse approaches and ideas - an inspiring snapshot of how sustainability can be lived at all levels. It became clear: Change begins where people come together to shape the future together.
